Patrick M. Simon, MD - San Antonio, TX“My interest in orthopedic surgery began during medical school when I was able to rotate through different areas of medicine. I was on my emergency medicine rotation when I was able to see the orthopedic surgeons take care of trauma patients with serious injuries. I liked it from that moment on and pursued a career in orthopaedics.

“I like the ability to take patients with injuries or chronic pain and make their lives better. A patient with painful arthritis in the knee can often return to a normal, pain-free life after knee replacement surgery. Those are the type of things that make me like orthopaedics. It’s a very good way to take care of patients. Seeing happy patients come back over the years is very satisfying as an orthopedic surgeon. It’s a fulfilling profession.

“I enjoy seeing patients and discussing their problems. I take a slightly more conservative approach to patient care. I like to provide surgical and nonsurgical options for my patients. We go through all the options and determine the best approach for each individual person. My goal is to help my patients achieve pain-free activities as much as possible. I identify the things that are holding them back from accomplishing their lifestyle goals and find either surgical or nonsurgical treatment options.”
